jazzjones Biographies
Rich Caruso has spent his life playing and studying
music. As a professional
musician he has performed at piano and trombone in many different settings.
A few notable credits:
-toured Europe and the United States with jazz artist Lionel Hampton,
including appearances at the Newport In New York Jazz Festival.
-toured Europe, South America, and the United States with latin/jazz
artist Tito Puente, including concerts from Quito, Ecuador to Carnegie
Hall in New York.
-performed at Newport In New York Jazz Festival with Tito Puente,
Machito, Dizzy Gillespie and Sonny Stitt
-toured the United States with jazz artist Maynard Ferguson.
-Recorded with Lionel Hampton, Tito Puente, Maynard Ferguson, and others.
-performed with Maestro James Brooks-Bruzzese conducting the Symphony of the
Americas in a series of
concerts featuring Rich's orchestrations
-performed with the Fort Lauderdale Symphony Orchestra
-performed with the Miami Philharmonic Orchestra
-performed with the Miami Ballet Orchestra
-performed with the Miami Opera Guild Orchestra, including performances
with Luciano Pavarotti and Franco Corelli.
Jim Chapek was born into a musical family. His
father was a trumpet player,
his mother a singer. He started out playing clarinet at age 12, and switched
to drums at age13. Jim studied formally with professional drummers and a
classical percussionist at the University of Miami. He is also highly
self-taught by listening to recordings of various types of music that include
standards, pop, rock and roll, rhythm and blues, jazz, classical, electronic,
Indian and others. Jim has played with every size and configuration of band
there is. He has also conducted many music sessions performing original music
composition and improvisation.

Paul LeGrande began his journey in music at age
thirteen, participating in
all-state band and chorus while playing in juke joints and at state fairs.
Joining Boots Mazulliís student jazz band steered him towards an education
at
Berklee School of Music and Boston Conservatory where he performed with
Charlie Mariano, Phil Wilson, Richie Birach, Jimmy Mosher, Cedric Lawson,
Richie Cole, Harvey Mason and Bob Degan . Leaving Berklee, he appeared with
Buddy DeFranco, Buddy Morrow, Don Ellis, Larry Nozero, Danny Spencer, Lionel
Hampton and Anita OíDay which brought him to Florida and the first jazz
cruise. While in Florida he has appeared with Bobby Mover, Tony Lada, Bobby
Meyer, Pete Minger, Jay Corre, Eric Allison, Charlie Ventura, Dolf Castillano
and the Worlds Greatest Jazz Band among others. Representing Miami and Miami
Beach as featured performer with LeGrande Salley Orchestra, he appeared at
the first Art Deco Festival and many Orange Bowl festivities and at the
centenial celebration of New Orleans, Jazz on the Mississippi.
